![]() In his famous book The Hero with a Thousand Faces (1949), he describes the narrative pattern as follows:Ī hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man.Ĭampbell's theories regarding the concept of a "monomyth" have been the subject of criticism from scholars, particularly folklorists (scholars active in folklore studies), who have dismissed the concept as a non-scholarly approach suffering from source-selection bias, among other criticisms. Campbell used the monomyth to analyze and compare religions. Eventually, hero myth pattern studies were popularized by Joseph Campbell, who was influenced by Carl Jung's analytical psychology. This fresh take on the concept of work styles will not only educate the audience but keep the audience thoroughly engaged! The exercise includes solving a work-related problem and reporting back to the larger audience. The interactive part of the program allows the audience to break off into groups of four to explore specific characters in the book so they may recognize their own workstyles: the gnome, the fairy, the angel, and the turtle. The lecture part of the program covers recruitment tips, from writing employment ads to attract non-traditional candidates, including people with disabilities, as well as other overlooked candidate sources to explore. Mower utilizes analogies from her book which tells the story of two Gargoyles who suddenly find themselves without employment and begins with the “first tentative steps” they must take to find their place in the new world. You feel too old to have to begin again, yet too young to retire. 9:15AM Imagine having the same job your entire working life and it is unexpectedly ripped (literally) away.
